George J. Matta Jr. - Co-Author
George J. Matta Jr. is a Vietnam Era Veteran who retired as a CMSgt after serving 20 years in the Air Force. He was a Distinguished Graduate, winning the National Security Affairs, Force Employment Awards, and Class Speaker awards at the Senior NCO Academy. He also served with NATO as the NCOIC of Operations in the Southern Region Signal Support Regiment (SRSSR) and as Chief of Data Automation for the largest base-level data processing facility in Europe;
George was also Superintendent, Operations Division for the 1964th Communications Group during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, being awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was credited with supporting the evacuation of over 4,200 wounded, sick and injured coalition force members during Desert Storm.
George has an Associate’s Degree in Data Processing, a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management Technology Summa Cum Laude and a Master’s in Business Administration with High Honors. He is an Air Force Certified Instructor and was an Adjunct Professor for The University of Maryland.
He collaborated with his father on a book documenting the experiences of his father and other POWs during the Korean War. He is also working on a second book that tells the Korean War story from a different perspective, that of the families at home desperately seeking information about their loved ones.
